Many of you have probably heard me say this before, but I’ll say it again — for Meet Your Stylist to be successful it has to be a central tool in your salon that everyone on your team is invested in. Think about a gym membership, just having a membership won’t help you meet your fitness goals. For the gym membership to work, you need to actually use it, talk about it, and take ownership of it.
The same logic holds true for Meet Your Stylist! For Meet Your Stylist to have a maximum impact on your salon’s success, it needs to be central to your salon’s vocabulary and culture. Here are a couple tips for how you can do that!
- Meet Your Stylist is a tool to empower your stylists! If you’re a salon owner, let your stylists know that Meet Your Stylist is not a prohibitive tool; rather, it’s an opportunity for your stylists to be matched with clients who are the best fit for them. Meet Your Stylist is a mechanism to empower your stylists and allows them to truly excel and enjoy every client who they work with. What is better than that!? So, make sure to let your stylists know that Meet Your Stylist is a way that you’re supporting their success!
- Use Meet Your Stylist during consultations. Typically, stylists know within the first couple minutes of a consultation whether that guest is a good fit for them. It doesn’t mean that the client is difficult to work with or has unrealistic expectations, it just means that there isn’t an instant connection between the two of you.
At one point or another, I’m guessing a lot of us have probably said something similar to, “he/she is really nice, but we just didn’t click”, when meeting a new coworker, date, or friend – and this is where Meet Your Stylist comes in! If you aren’t connecting with a guest, you can say something like, “I think there are other stylists here who would be better suited to taking care of your needs and the services that you’re looking for, would you be open to taking our Meet Your Stylist survey to find out who is the best fit for you?” Then, you can bring over an iPad and walk the client through taking the survey. This keeps the client in your salon and ensures a great first experience!
As you can see, it takes an entire team for Meet Your Stylist to be successful and integrated into your salon’s culture. Every team member needs to be excited about it, talk about it with their clients, and support one another!
